China's First Domestically-Produced Insulated Submarine Cable Launched in Beihai
China's first 220-kilovolt submarine cable using domestically-produced insulation material has begun laying in the Beihai Weizhou Island area. This project, part of the Southern Power Grid's cross-sea interconnection initiative, marks a breakthrough in long-distance submarine cable insulation material localization, addressing a critical bottleneck in China's cable industry. Once operational, it will end Weizhou Island's isolated power grid operation, boosting its electricity supply capacity from 35,000 kW to 161,000 kW and supporting offshore wind power integration.
